Suspect Spends 7 hours In Ocean While Running From Police

A California suspect is being treated for hypothermia following a standoff with police that saw the man spend hours in the ocean.

Cmdr. Jesus Ochoa of the Coronado Police Department said the man, whose name was not released, fled from officers who attempted to arrest him on a felony warrant for narcotics violations around 9:50 p.m. Sunday near the Hotel Del Coronado and he ran a short ways into the ocean, KFBM-TV, San Diego, reported Monday.

The man, who is in his 40s, was shirtless and remained in the water for seven hours while police waited for him to emerge and surrender, Ochoa said.

The suspect was arrested early Monday and taken to a hospital, where he was being treated for hypothermia.
